Hi sewing friends! Well, I should really be busy working on my Make Nine projects if I want to have a chance at finishing them before the end of the year lol. But alas, I just had to take a detour to participate in some fun Instagram contests!! I’m a sucker for a cute cardigan, so the #joyvivtopper challenge (organized by Joy Bernhardt and Viv from Vivmom on Youtube) was right up my alley. Check out the hashtag on Instagram to get TONS of inspiration for cardigans, kimonos and dusters! I just knew I had to participate, and on top of that, I scored some GORGEOUS animal print fabric from the thrift store for an insanely good price! I got 6 yards (that’s right 6 yards!) of this stretch jersey for 3 dollars and 22 cents!! UN.BE.LIEVABLE!! I used barely a yard for this project, so I’ve got plenty left over for future projects! I’m also working on a project for the #sewmanpants challenge, but I’ll be using a different fabric for that.

So, for my cardigan, I used Simplicity 8951. And without further ado, here is my review of the pattern:

Pattern Description:

Misses’ Knit Cardigans

Pattern Sizing:

US 6-14 and 14-22

I cut a size 16 and graded to an 18 at the waist/hip.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?

Yes! I made view B and it looked like the line drawing.

Were the instructions easy to follow?

So easy! This pattern came together extremely quickly. I just basted on my sewing machine and used my serger to finish all the seams.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?

I wasn’t sure I was going to like the cropped style, but I actually LOVE it. I have no complaints about this pattern.

Fabric Used:

I used a stretch jersey that I scored from a local thrift store. I don’t know the exact fiber content, but it’s definitely T-shirt fabric.

For the bands, I used a black rib knit.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made:

I didn’t make any changes except to omit the buttons. I decided I was in love with this cropped jacket look and the buttons weren’t needed.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?

Yes, and yes! I will definitely be making this again. This is something I will wear gladly and often, and I’d like to have a few more in some interesting fabrics (stretch velvet anyone??) to round out my wardrobe.

Conclusion:

Such a quick and satisfying project! I also see a lot of versatility and opportunities for customization. It can look funky or sweet depending on your fabric choice.
