A learn to sew pattern. Is it really though?
Ok so I made this jacket using a McCalls pattern (M7476) and this one was a bit of a struggle for me. And by a bit of a struggle, I mean INSANELY frustrating. For starters, I couldn't find the right fabric to use. I looked everywhere for a decent sweater knit and couldn't find one for a good price. So I ended up going with stretch cotton twill and hoping for the best. The pattern was marketed as a "learn to sew for fun" pattern, but I found the instructions to be confusing which made the process anything but fun. I made a lot of mistakes and ended up having to use my seam ripper a lot during the process (so not fun!). This left holes in my fabric which I obviously didn't want. I'm still not happy with how the sleeves turned out, but it could have been worse I guess. In the photo you can see that I'm holding the jacket closed with my hand. Yeah....that's because there's supposed to be a button there, but I had trouble making the button hole. I tried several times on leftover scrap fabric and the machine jammed every. single. time. Will I be making this pattern again? Unlikely. Will I rock this jacket that I made? Absolutely!
