Mccall's 7574
Ok people, I am beyond excited about today's look! I knew the moment I laid eyes on the pattern that I wanted this dress. I actually held off on buying the pattern though because I knew I wanted it in the exact fabric that was on the pattern envelope. It had to be that or NOTHING lol. So when I was wandering around JoAnn's one day and it just so happened that they had the fabric! I quickly snatched up 3 yards of it. It was on sale too, so yay! Then I rushed to the pattern drawers to grab the pattern in my size. Keep reading for my review...
Pattern Description: Raglan sleeve pullover dress (or top)
Sizing: 6-14 or 14-22. I cut a size 14, but ended up having to take it in some.
Difficulty: easy
Fabric Used: Jersey knit. It's lightweight, but hangs a bit heavy if that makes sense.
Does it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope? Yes honey! Although I did not attempt to pattern match. Lol that's a lie, I tried and failed.😂
Were the instructions easy to follow? I think so. I only read about half of the instructions. Once I figured out how the pieces fit together I stopped reading and just stitched it up.
Likes: It was pretty easy. I love the shape. I think it's a really flattering look and it's incredibly comfortable.
Dislikes: I don't like the seam going down the middle of the sleeves. I had a hard time ironing it out and it just seemed unnecessary to me.
Pattern alterations or any design changes made: I took it in at the sleeves and at the side seams down to the waist. Next time I will try a sway back adjustment because there is a little extra fabric pooling in the back, but not enough to matter a whole lot. Most ready to wear clothes do the same thing on me. Oh and I eliminated the pockets because I accidentally misaligned them and rather than use my seam ripper, I decided to just cut them off lol.
Would I sew it again? Most definitely!
Would I recommend it to others? Yes, but unless you want your machine to eat your fabric, you'll want to make sure to use a walking foot and/or some tissue paper under the fabric. I love how jersey feels when I wear it, but I hate how slippery it is and how uncooperative it can be when sewing.
Conclusion: This is a great dress! I think it looks great layered with a tank top too!
